 Baptisms at St Marys

We hold baptisms or Christenings (the words are virtually interchangeable) at the Family Service, which is an all age service, held at 10.30am on the first Sunday of each month. Baptism is the Christian initiation ceremony for your child at which parents and godparents promise to bring up their children in the Christian faith and bring then into the life the church and undertake to be a Christian example to them. It is important that you yourself understand what this will mean and what the responsibilities are, and therefore we ask you to come to a short session on a Saturday morning at 9am when we introduce you to the promises you will make and then walk around church to understand what will happen in the service of baptism.

We ask that parents and as many godparents as are able attend church on at least 3 occasions before the baptism service is held.

It is also possible to be baptised as an adult. Once again please contact the vicar.
