Our Annual Meetings – 1) to Elect Church Wardens and 2) Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) will take place on Sunday 29th April from 12 noon in the John Frith Room. During these meetings, as well as reviewing our accounts and what the PCC has been doing throughout the year, we will be electing those who share in the leadership of the church with the Vicar:
Churchwardens: We are delighted that David Booker and Christina Cusick have agreed to stand for election again.
PCC Elected Members: after (at least) 3 years service, Martin Adamson, Rachel Mercer and Helen Ogden are not seeking election at the end of their terms; Mike Humphrey also stepped down during the year. This means we have four vacancies. To be elected you need to be over 16, on the electoral roll for at least 6 months and have taken communion 3 times in the last year. Being on the PCC is an important role, sharing the leadership of the church with Kevin; please consider seriously if you can commit to this.
Deanery Synod: Gina Hill is stepping down as our Deanery Synod Representative. The Deanery Synod acts as a forum for parishes to share information on matters relating to the deanery, with our representative(s) representing us and feeding back on matters that affect us. We can have two representatives; please consider if you could undertake one of these roles. There are similar eligibility criteria for Deanery Synod as per the PCC.
Church Wardens and members of the Deanery Synod are automatically members of the PCC. As the PCC is a charity, and the members are trustees, there are some specific requirements to ensure members meet the ‘fit and proper persons’ legislation (details at the back of church). Please note that to raise awareness of safeguarding at the leadership level of charities the Charity Commission (followed by the Church Of England) now require those elected onto the PCC undergo a DBS check after they are elected.
The forms to nominate Church Wardens, PCC members and Deanery Synod Representatives are at the back of the church or as downloads from this page. If you wish to stand for any of the positions please check the eligibility criteria, fill in the form and the attached declaration and give to our PCC Secretary – Barbara Humphrey – either directly or via Alyson in the office prior to the meeting. If you are unsure of who might nominate you, we can help! Please ask Kevin or Alyson.
PCC Secretary: the primary responsibilities of a PCC Secretary are to support the PCC Chair in the preparation and organisation of meetings and to handle all correspondence on behalf of the PCC. Barbara Humphrey is stepping down from this role and we are seeking someone to take over from her.
Treasurer: Carol Harper is currently continuing in this role, but would like to hand over to someone else at some point during this year. We can be flexible and possibly split the responsibilities of the Treasurer; you do not have to be an accountant to do most of this role!
If you think you can help with these roles please contact Kevin who will explain what is involved before you commit yourself.
We also note that Nora Pendleton, who has served as our Electoral Roll Officer, and Helen Ogden who continued to look after the Website which she put together with David Booker and Rachel Mercer are stepping down from these responsibilities; we are pleased to note that Karen Smart and Gillian Burmester respectively have agreed to undertake these roles.
The Vicar offers his personal thanks, along with thanks from the church, to all those who have supported him and the church by carrying out these roles – for those who have stepped down and to those who are continuing. All these positions are vital to the continued running of the church; please pray and consider if you can take up any of these responsibilities.
